Attorney

ML and CHEN, P.C.  is seeking an Attorney to become a part of our great, intelligent team!  You will represent clients in legal proceedings, draw up legal documents and advise clients on legal transactions.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Represent clients in courts or before government agencies such as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services ("USCIS");
  • Prepare and draft legal documents on behalf of clients, such as complaints, memos, legal research writing;
  • Advise clients on business, legal transactions and trademark registrations;
  • Negotiate settlements on civil legal disputes, plea-bargain with the District Attorneys' offices;
  • Assist clients in complying with all legal standards and regulations;
  • Perform administrative and/or managerial functions related to the practice of law.
Qualifications:
  • Admitted to the New York State Bar;
  • Previous experience, especially trial experience in law practice will be given preference;
  • Familiarity with various legal documents;
  • Strong analytical, legal research and Problem solving skills;
  • Strong writing skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • With good common sense;
  • Ability to build rapport with clients;
  • English-Chinese bilingual preferred but NOT required;

Estate Planning Attorney

Responsibilities:

  • Work on advanced estate and income tax planning matters
  • Evaluate and update template documents, letters, and procedures
  • Be able to draft high-quality correspondence; estate planning documents; Probate, Administration, and Conservatorship petitions; strategy recommendations; settlement agreements; etc.
  • Research estate planning and probate issues
  • Represent clients at Probate, Administration, Trust, and Conservatorship court hearings
  • Review client issues on Trust and Estate matters, analyze available options, and diligently work to determine the best course of action
  • Meet with clients, perform intake, and follow up with clients

Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience working as an estate planning attorney
  • A strong understanding of the needs and priorities of estate planning attorneys, their clients, and the general legal market
  • Knowledge of tax implications of trusts and estates
  • Possess a minimum of Juris Doctor (JD) degree or Master of Laws (LLM) Degree;
  • Admitted in New York Bar, other states are a plus
  • Have the ability to prioritize and multitask

Law Clerk

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research of laws, statutes, regulations, court opinions, and prepare legal memoranda for attorneys on specific legal issues based on legal research.
  • Draft and prepare supporting documents for immigration and non-immigration petitions and applications, trademark applications, and estate planning documents.
  • Prepare drafts of legal documents including complaints, declarations, discovery requests, discovery responses, and dispositive motions.
  • Assist attorneys in developing litigation strategies and arguments for litigation matters
  • Keep abreast of changes in the law and USCIS adjudication practices, and draft articles and legal alerts to inform clients and potential clients of such changes
  • Participate in conferences with attorneys for ongoing litigation cases. Attend court sessions for ongoing cases.
  • Administer case management system, track case status on a regular basis, and inform clients their case status. 

Qualifications:

  • Possess previous experience as a law clerk or other similar legal position;

Legal Assistant

ML and CHEN, P.C.  is seeking a Legal Assistant to become a part of our great, intelligent team! You will provide overall support to attorneys' businesses needs.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research to support legal proceedings at the courts or before the administrative tribunals;
  • Assist with the drafting and reviewing of legal documents;
  • Investigate facts to help in the negotiation of legal disputes;
  • Interview potential and existing clients to determine, identify some basic legal issues;
  • Assist attorneys to conduct legal research, draft simple documents, present basic analysis of legal questions;
  • Monitor or supervise some administrative staff members' work; and,
  • Supervise administrative staff members to record, enter and store client information
Qualifications:
  • English-Chinese bilingual a must;
  • Previous experience as a paralegal or other legal field;
  • Familiarity with legal research skills and expertise;
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask;

Business Development Specialist/Marketing Specialist, Part Time

ML and CHEN, P.C. is seeking a Business Development Specialist/Marketing Specialist to become a part of our great, intelligent team! This role is responsible for a wide variety of duties supporting marketing initiatives of the company and seeking new business opportunities.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and compile materials for business development opportunities identified by attorneys;
  • Participate in competitor tracking and industry business intelligence monitoring;
  • Plan and manage events such as seminars, conferences, client events, webinars, including oversight of all aspects of event logistics, mailing lists, budget, internal and external communications, marketing and client development planning, and follow-up activities;
  • Conduct research on prospects and clients and write clear, concise dossier reports summarizing findings;
  • Maintain and develop law firm’s official website;
  • Report news and important cases to traditional publication and online platforms periodically;
  • Update regulations regarding the law firm’s practice areas;
  • Write summaries and maintain practice group experience lists, case studies and event database. Work with attorneys to create legal directory submissions; and
  • Provide back-up support as needed to attorneys.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher degree;
  • Experience and working knowledge of website development;
  • Familiarity with online marketing, social media;
